Barrier Contraception

Barrier contraception includes male and female condoms, spermicide gel, Diaphragm, and cervical cap. Although these methods are convenient, given they are over the counter, they are not as effective as long acting and hormonal contraceptives. Dr. Fleming does recommend condom use for some patients as they will helpprevent sexually transmitted diseases, and can also be added contraception to long acting, oral and injectable contraceptives.
